Southend Air Festival (2002-2012)
‘The event takes place at Southend seafront over the May Bank Holiday and attracts up to two hundred thousand people to the event over the two days. Ian is engaged as our event radio controller and is responsible for controlling and managing that system during the site ‘build’, the event and the site ‘breakdown’. He works closely with our crowd management, traffic and security providers as well as all the emergency services to ensure all relevant communications are quickly and efficiently passed between the various agencies. He maintains a detailed log of all issues which arise before, during and after the event which are invaluable at the event debrief. As well as Ian’s skills as a radio operator his knowledge, experience and background in event safety and emergency planning is absolutely vital. He has provided advice and guidance on the events risk assessments as well as the safety plan. It is reassuring to me to know that whatever incident may arise whether it be small or a major incident, perhaps involving one or more displaying aircraft, that Ian will calmly manage the information flow between the agencies as well as the information to be passed to the public via the public address system which will be critical in that situation. Ian is a key member of the on site event team and I consider us fortunate to have his services.’

Derek Harber, Honorary Air Show Organiser. RAFA Shoreham Air Show.
‘…..also the Air Show Committee who put into action the laid down procedure rehearsed pre show. One can only guess at possible problems you might encounter at such events, but our Safety Officer Ian Taylor acted in a calm and very professional manner throughout the afternoon taking charge of the organisational steps in rescue and safety issues’
